Alabama ranked ninth in the nation for mortgages past due.  Eleven percent of Alabama homeowners had mortgages with one or more payment past due in the fourth quarter of 2009.

Nationwide, the delinquency rate of mortgages fell to 9.5 percent. The Mortgage Bankers Association said that the drop in the delinquency rate is a possible sign that the end of the mortgage crisis is near.
